On January 9, 2025, Aidan Mercer, Marketing Director of buildingSMART International, led a delegation to visit the Hetao Development Authority in the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone (Hetao Cooperation Zone) and held discussions with Director-General Zeng Jianpeng.buildingSMART国际市场总监Aidan Mercer(艾丹 墨瑟)一行到访深圳市河套深港科技创新合作区深圳园区发展署,与曾坚朋署长会晤座谈。

Mr. Mercer first toured the Hetao Shenzhen Park exhibition hall, where he received an introduction to the Hetao Cooperation Zone. He expressed admiration for the unique geographical and policy advantages of the zone.
During the meeting, Mr. Mercer introduced buildingSMART, including its history, global membership, its Chapter in China, and its nine Strategic Projects, particularly the Project and Enterprise Certification program.项目及企业认证(Project and Enterprise Certification)的情况。

Director Zeng stated that Hetao is a thriving hub for international organizations. He highlighted that the Comentropy Industry and Standard Innovation Service Center has already provided comprehensive professional services to six international industry and standards organizations. He also expressed hope that buildingSMART could establish operations in Hetao.深圳市共熵产业与标准创新服务中心已经为6个国际性产业与标准组织提供了全方位的专业服务,也希望buildingSMART能够在河套进行运营。
Mr. Mercer emphasized that buildingSMART places great importance on the Chinese market and has established buildingSMART China in partnership with China Institute of Building Standard Design & Research. Currently, buildingSMART is in the preparatory stages of its Project and Enterprise Certification program, led by Wei Lai, Secretary-General of buildingSMART China, and promoted globally. Mr. Mercer noted the potential for this initiative to be implemented in Hetao.
Both sides discussed opportunities for collaboration between buildingSMART and other industries in Hetao, exploring avenues for coordinated development.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Hetao Development Authority, the Comentropy Industry and Standard Innovation Service Center, buildingSMART China, and buildingSMART fellows.

buildingSMART is a global standardization organization dedicated to driving digital transformation in the construction industry. It aims to promote digital development through the creation and provision of open and neutral international standards (openBIM) and solutions. buildingSMART has 37 national/territorial members, more than 70 corporate members, and strategic partnerships with 16 international organizations, including ISO's TC 59/SC 13 (Digitalization in Construction and BIM), GS1 (Global Standards Organization), and OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium). As of October 2024, the openBIM IFC standard has been adopted in 18 countries and regions worldwide.
